What are Mood Disorders?

Mood disorders are a class of serious psychiatric conditions characterized by significant and persistent disturbances in a person’s emotional state, impacting their mood, energy levels, and ability to function. They can last in prolonged periods and can significantly affect daily life.

Mood disorders such as depression (also known as major depressive disorder) and bipolar disorder effect millions of Americans annually – though many rarely seek treatment. Neither of these disorders have a “one-size-fits all” solution; each client that walks through our doors receives an individualized treatment plan made specifically for their needs.

For over 13 years we’ve provided gold standard, personalized care to those struggling with mood disorders. Take the first step towards a better quality of life and speak to one of our specialists today.

MOOD DISORDER
Depression
What is Depression?

Major Depressive Disorder is a mental health condition characterized by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life. It’s more than just feeling sad; it’s a persistent state of low mood and loss of interest in activities that can significantly interfere with daily life. It is one of the most common mental health conditions worldwide, effecting more than 21 million Americans every year.

Symptoms of Depression:
  • Irritability
  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness or helplessness
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities
  • Changes in energy levels, appetite, sleep patterns, concentration, and self-worth

Though it is a serious condition that requires treatment, Advanced Health & Education provides certified depression treatment with a program designed to promote lifelong mental wellbeing long after treatment is complete.

MOOD DISORDER
Bipolar Disorder
What is Bipolar Disorder?

Bipolar Disorder is a mental health condition characterized by “intense emotional states that typically occur during distinct periods of days to weeks, called mood episodes.” (American Psychiatric Association) Individuals may have extreme shifts in mood, energy, and activity levels, alternating between manic (or hypomanic) episodes and depressive episodes. These shifts can significantly impact a person’s ability to carry out daily tasks, maintain relationships, and function effectively at work or school. An estimated 5.7 million Americans are effected.

Symptoms of Bipolar:

Manic/Hypomanic episodes can include:

  • Feeling energetic, elated, irritable, or jumpy
  • Decreased appetite or need for sleep
  • Racing thoughts that can result in increased talkativeness
  • Willingness to take excessive risks that may have painful consequences
  • Increased distractibility

Depressive symptoms include:

  • Feeling down, sad, empty, or hopeless
  • Trouble concentrating, sleeping, or eating
  • Feeling unable to make decisions or lacking the energy to do things that previously felt easy
  • Loss of interest in previously enjoyable activities
  • Thoughts about death or suicide

Though it is a serious condition that requires treatment, Advanced Health & Education provides certified Bipolar Disorder treatment with a program designed to promote lifelong mental wellbeing long after treatment is complete.

PERSONALITY DISORDER
Borderline Personality Disorder
What is BPD?

Borderline Personality Disorder is a mental health condition characterized by unstable emotions, impulsive behaviors, and difficulties in relationships. Individuals with BPD often experience intense mood swings, a distorted self-image, and a fear of abandonment. These challenges can significantly impact their daily lives and relationships with others.

Symptoms of BPD:
  • Intense mood swings, sometimes triggered by seemingly minor issues or events
  • Rapid changes in feelings about others
Self-destructive behaviors such as impulsive spending, self harm, and substance use
  • Fear of abandonment that affects how you behave with others, such as diving into relationships quickly/ending them just as fast
  • Unstable or distorted sense of self
  • Suicidal thoughts

Though it is a serious condition that requires treatment, Advanced Health & Education provides certified BPD treatment with a program designed to promote lifelong mental wellbeing long after treatment is complete.
