Relapsing is expected after rehab. This is not meant to be discouraging, but being a disease, drug addiction is hard to control and will take some time to adjust to a sober lifestyle. Despite the rate of relapse being 40 – 60 percent, you do not have to be included in those statistics.
Research all the options available to you with your addiction treatment team before being discharged. Develop a plan of action and stick to it. There are support group meetings with a prospective sponsor waiting to help as well as recovery coaches. These coaches, though unlicensed, are prepared to assist with your recovery by helping you to alter your mindset, and present your sobriety as manageable. They may also be utilized to help you set goals; you always have something to strive for.
The hard road can be made easier. Once you’re ready to commit, there are courses of action such as working with a recovery coach that can make coping much easier!
